GOD-FUCKING-DAMMIT!!!

I go on one date last night, shunning the usually-abysmal Sunday night Fox line-up, and what oh what do I miss??

I WILL NEVER GO OUT ON A DATE AGAIN.

Oh who am I kidding, I want to meet a girl whose purse is a lunchbox.

Although Lisa identifying with the GHOST WORLD girls? She's alienated, but she's also still idealistic and isn't a selfish jerk. But thankfully, all of that was forgotten by the time we got to "Watchmen Babies: V for Vacation" and "Maus is in the Haus!"

W...WOW!

That seriously makes me want to start watching the simpsons again.

It still seems a little forced compared to when they were in their prime (especially Lisa's dialogue) but that was still one of the best things I have ever seen on their show.

I hear the show has gotten better.

The season just before the movie was definitely improved. And the movie itself... well, I was quoting it, and I haven't quoted Simpsons in bloody ages. But so far the current season has gone right back to mediocrity. Until this very moment, that is. I just wish I could have seen the whole thing.

Watchmen Babies: V for Vacation

I had a moment of: "are you shitting me, that can't be him really...." last night. The corporate rant was beautiful.

Watchmen Babies floored me, buried me and Rorshach'ed on my grave...

Cant thank you enough for posting this Hef. It will be ages before it airs over here.
Ah Mr Moore......perfect.
And I would totally buy Watchmen Babies, then despise myself for evermore!!

...just for Baby Rorschach alone man. The scenes when they go to his home with his mom would herald the golden age of children's comics/television...

Did you have fun on the date, at least?

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Very much so. We went to go see LARS AND THE REAL GIRL. Good offbeat date movie fare, better than, say, BEOWULF (which she said she would have loved to have seen; I'm gonna try to get a group together to see it again in IMAX).

Sweet. And yes, good call on the movie choice.

My mom told me this weekend that she wants to go see Beowulf in IMAX. I said, "Okay. I've heard it's visually stunning but really, really bad." She said, "I know. That's why I want to go see it in IMAX." I love this woman. *g*

Whoever told your mother that is wrong, wrong, wrong. I mean, if they were just expecting mindless 300 style action without substance, then I can see where they'd be coming from.

Heh. I think it was the NYT review, but I take those guys with a large grain of salt anyway.

I missed that and I wasn't even on a date! But I never watch "The Simpsons", so that's hardly surprising. "V for Vacation". Hahaha.

Oh, the long-lost days of the lunchbox purse. Mine was a Batman lunchbox, and then I got a Bone lunchbox but by then I was just using them to keep things in.

Yes, but are you named after a fruit?

Even a sort of bread would be sufficient. Oh Pumpernickel McKenzie, how I long for you...

Not even a little bit. But I thank my dad every day for not having gone with Pastrami. I understand it was a near thing.

Every girl I meet whose purse is a lunchbox only ever wants to keep me around to shop with them, not to date them. Ah, my life.

Alan Moore actually did an episode of the Simpsons. That may, in fact, be one of the signs of the apocalypse.

Date: 2007-11-19 04:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Aye, that seems to be a similar pattern with me. Also, they tend to be bugfuck crazy and/or flaky (or Canadian, see above), when all I want is "delightfully eccentric." It's a fine line.

And he sang. ALAN MOORE SANG ABOUT LITTLE LULU.

As have I, pally. As have I. They make life ever so interesting. I'd have far less Hefner Monologues without them.

And that icon is rockin'.

I would keep you around!

From: [identity profile] kali921.livejournal.com
I have a lunchbox purse and I would DEFINITELY keep you around for more than shopping, darling. You know why? Out of the thousands of reasons I can cite, the first one that springs to mind this morning is because you are loyal to people you care about, and we don't see much of that around these LJ environs. You step up to the place and speak your mind when someone attacks someone you care about, and you won't stand for it.

That's such a rare quality in our times.

On TOP of the wit and warmth and intelligence.

You had me at hello.

From: [identity profile] shadowlongknife.livejournal.com
Hey, I like to keep people around who make my day brighter by their very presence. I'll fight hard to keep them in my life, once I make friends with them. I don't know no other way to be.

I have this sudden urge to buy you a lunchbox for a Christmas present now. Heh.

Clearly what you need to do is schedule your social life around which TV shows you want to watch.

I mean, clearly.

...oh who am I kidding, I work like 65 hours a week, I have no social life to speak of.

Excellent clip, though, thanks for that.

Sssssssssss-oh-shhh-ial life??? What is this strange thing of which you speak?

Heck, I just wish I could have seen the whole episode.

From: [identity profile] angrylemur.livejournal.com
I'm told it has nothing to do with graphic design, illustration, copy editing, or publishing in general. But then, I'm also told other peoples' lives don't revolve around these things. Which I understand. Theoretically. I don't know what all those people I've dated are complaining about.

I even have a purse that's a lunchbox. Although I don't use it very regularly.

Heh heh. One of these days, I'm probably going to have to learn how to go an entire date without saying "Have you seen ________" or "Hey, that's ________! Do you know him? Have you seen _______, ____, or _______________? That's totally him!! Isn't that awesome now that I've established that connection for you?!"

The best three minutes of TV I've seen in ages. So that definitely was Moore, Spiegelman, and Clowes doing their own voices? I caught that bit but then missed the rest of the episode. Alan Moore's Little Lulu...

Oh, and I've finally begun Watchmen, just starting Chapter 2 tonight.

Date: 2007-11-20 06:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Aye, that was absolutely the real guys doing their own voices! It just wouldn't have been as brilliant otherwise. (and there's something a little perverse about "Maus is in the Haus!")

Aha, cool! You'll have to let me know what you think. Take your time with it. I reread it every year or so, and I *still* notice new layers and things I'd never seen before.

And even then, it might not do anything for you. Don't feel bad if it doesn't. It's really overrated, frankly. It's not the greatest comic of all time... it's just damn excellent, and better than most.

There's something weird with my youtube viewing of this, he just keeps going back into the caps over and over again. Not that I'm complaining, mind...

So how *did* that date go? (Or am I on a special 'I may meet this girl one day and therefore can't give her inside information' filter?)

/you should hear the other names I came up with for that filter

Date: 2007-11-20 03:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Oh noes! Hopefully it'll work better soon.

Actually, did I put you on that filter? I know you're at least half-joking there, but seriously, I don't know if I did! Perhaps just to play it super-safe, because the LJ drama of late has been in-SAAAAAANE. You understand.

So yes, date did indeed go well. Not much to say for the first time out, frankly, but there's enough that I'd certainly like to her see again.

Still, glad K_ and I got to see the clip. We loved that Alan Moore was infront of a poster for Lost Girls. Aw hell, that whole clip was full of comic geeky goodness. Watchmen Babies indeed.... *snicker*

L.O.L.

I guess the Simpsons writers can still occasionally pull something great out of their ass.
