thehefner: (The Hoohah Monologues)

Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thirdbase (who brought friends!), [livejournal.com profile] icewolf010, [livejournal.com profile] torberg, [livejournal.com profile] fishymcb, [livejournal.com profile] marred82, and [livejournal.com profile] themadhatter26 for showing up to support Heffie tonight! The show was a bit rough--first time doing it since July and trying out new material to boot--but overall I am durn pleased!

Tomorrow, it will be even better! And afterward, there will be cake and grief counseling!

Sorry, I've spent all day watching a complete walkthrough of the game PORTAL, which I can't play as I have no applicable console. Holy bejabbers, can I just say how much I love GLaDOS? What a brilliant "character."

I mean, as much as I'd love to quote her, it's just not the same without the brilliant voice actress' delivery, but I can try: "Spectacular, you appear to understand how a portal affects forward momentum, or to be more precise, how it does not. Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms, 'Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out'."

Oh, and also: "Please note, we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your official testing record, followed by death. Good luck."

No, it's just not the same without her beautiful delivery. If GLaDOS and Stephen Fry's Jeeves were ever to meet, why, I just don't know what would happen, but it'd be wittily odd and delightful and hazardous in all the right ways.

I'm tempted to post more, particularly the one about neurotoxin emiters, but I shall hold off, for the sake of [livejournal.com profile] themadhatter26 particularly, who is actually going to play the game soon. Poor boy, just like me, he has the wonderful "Still Alive" song stuck in his head too. God bless Jonathan Coulton.

I find it surreal and beautiful that I read this post just after dancing around with my boyfriend to "Still Alive". I hope you always manage to read my thoughts of geekdom. *^_^*

"Like maybe Black Mesa, that was a joke, ha ha, fat chance..."

Now, in fairness, the VGCats animated version of that song came out, which has spread its popularity and whatnot. That's how I first heard about it just this past Friday, not getting any of the jokes!

In fact, I still don't get the Black Masa thing? I'm not a gamer, who or what is Black Masa? Even google was unclear in helping this.

Oh! He he he...no worries. My boyfriend is the vide game expert so he fell in love with the song instantly. I just knew of Coulton ("All we wanna do is eat your brains...we're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes!")Anyhoo, Black Mesa is the research company/facility that causes the mayhhem creating the scenarios for the Half-Life games. So in this instance the computer's joking that maybe the company that stuck him in this "training/testing" program will come rescue him from her. Hence: FAT CHANCE. Sorry we can't be there, things are insane right now.
I've just remember that you still have my hairband that I loaned you for ease in applying Two-Face makeup.
Mayhaps we should make plans to socialize so that I might retrieve it.

Yeppers, we should and shall.

Still, I'm gonna need to get one myself, as I plan to do the make-up thing one last time in a month or two.

They're easy to find in the hair doo-dad aisle of the CVS.

Between eyebrow pencils and hairbands, I really should just do all my makeup needs at CVS.

Still, I hate to give them business, as they keep swallowing up all my cool childhood movie theaters.

You need to also see the trailer for Portal.

Ellen McLain has done a lot of voice work for Valve Software, such as the Combine Overwatch in the Half-Life series, not to mention the voice of the main character's personal hazmat suit. She's even more prominent in Team Fortress 2.

In Portal, like many of Valve's latest, there's a a way to play the game with commentary, sorta like watching any DVD with commentary. Some of them are delivered by McLain herself. She's definitely got that native Tennessee twang, which makes you appreciate her range all the more.

I have all of these games; if you had a computer to play them on, I'd totally lend them (or hell, buy 'em off Steam for you).

"There was even going to be a party for you. A big party, that all of your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend, 'the Companion Cube'. Of course, he couldn't come, because you murdered him. All your other friends couldn't come either, because you don't have any other friends because of how unlikable you are. It says so right here in your personnel file; 'Unlikable. Liked by no one. A bitter unlikable loner whose passing shall not be mourned.' SHALL NOT BE MOURNED. That's exactly what it says. Very formal. Very official. It also says you were adopted. So that's funny too."

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has fallen in love with Portal without, er, actually playing the game. I'm even considering getting one of the plush companion cubes when they get released. Once I've cleared some space off of my hard drive I'll probably download the game from Valve's site though.
