Big thanks to
thirdbase (who brought friends!),
icewolf010,
torberg,
fishymcb,
marred82, and
themadhatter26 for showing up to support Heffie tonight! The show was a bit rough--first time doing it since July and trying out new material to boot--but overall I am durn pleased!
Tomorrow, it will be even better! And afterward, there will be cake and grief counseling!
Sorry, I've spent all day watching a complete walkthrough of the game PORTAL, which I can't play as I have no applicable console. Holy bejabbers, can I just say how much I love GLaDOS? What a brilliant "character."
I mean, as much as I'd love to quote her, it's just not the same without the brilliant voice actress' delivery, but I can try: "Spectacular, you appear to understand how a portal affects forward momentum, or to be more precise, how it does not. Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms, 'Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out'."
Oh, and also: "Please note, we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your official testing record, followed by death. Good luck."
No, it's just not the same without her beautiful delivery. If GLaDOS and Stephen Fry's Jeeves were ever to meet, why, I just don't know what would happen, but it'd be wittily odd and delightful and hazardous in all the right ways.
I'm tempted to post more, particularly the one about neurotoxin emiters, but I shall hold off, for the sake of
themadhatter26 particularly, who is actually going to play the game soon. Poor boy, just like me, he has the wonderful "Still Alive" song stuck in his head too. God bless Jonathan Coulton.

Date: 2007-12-11 03:16 pm (UTC)I've just remember that you still have my hairband that I loaned you for ease in applying Two-Face makeup.
Mayhaps we should make plans to socialize so that I might retrieve it.

Ellen McLain has done a lot of voice work for Valve Software, such as the Combine Overwatch in the Half-Life series, not to mention the voice of the main character's personal hazmat suit. She's even more prominent in Team Fortress 2.
In Portal, like many of Valve's latest, there's a a way to play the game with commentary, sorta like watching any DVD with commentary. Some of them are delivered by McLain herself. She's definitely got that native Tennessee twang, which makes you appreciate her range all the more.
I have all of these games; if you had a computer to play them on, I'd totally lend them (or hell, buy 'em off Steam for you).
