thehefner: (Harvey Dent: I Believe In Harvey)
[personal profile] thehefner
The Gotham Times have been updated! Which means if you click the "h" in "Gotham" on the headline, you'll see a certain someone has updated something as well.

Meanwhile, Concerned Citizens for a Better Gotham, a mysterious group of "100 concerned businessmen, police officers, and residents" have launched a Swift-Boat-style smear campaign against Harvey Dent. In response, ADA Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal!) holds a press conference to defend Harvey Dent and refute these allegations.

I really hope we see more of the actors do spots like this in character. How cool would it be if Aaron Eckhart pulled a "Borat" and started appearing on talk shows in character as Harvey Dent?

Sadly, the joke would be lost on your average person, which is why more and more, people (mainly the joyless asshats at chud.com) have been bitching about how pointless all this marketing has been, that no one cares other than the hardcore geeks, how it'll have no real effect on the masses. On one hand, they're probably right. On the other hand, eat a bag of dicks.

I...I would love to see Harvey Dent appear on Leno and the McLaughlin Report. Oh, man, that would be a marketing coup if they could pull that off. But they won't.

"On the other hand, eat a bag of dicks" is something I now must try to use in casual conversation. I would have LOL'd if I was not at work and trying not to look like I'm working instead of tooling around on Livejournal because I have two days left at this job.

Danny likes to use that one, and I'm quite fond of it. :)

There is much potential for hilarious use, there.

... I just realized that I should have said "trying TO look like I am working instead of tooling around on Livejournal, etc". Oops.

I feel I should mention that the "On the other hand" part was my personal addition. "Eat a bag of dicks" is Danny's. Combine the two, and you get the direct result of hetero-lifemate awesomeness.

He's a little bit country. I'm a little bit rock n roll.

Just remember that you owe me a nickel every time you use it. ;)

And for your edification, the most common usage of the phrase is in harsh, pointed response to another person's tactless or mean comment to you.

Example:

"Have you been gaining weight, Bob?"

"Eat a bag o' dicks, Larry."

I am a huge proponent for viral marketing, when it works, and this works well (I'm trying to figure out the fucking aperturescience.com site.) Why not give fans something to play around with before the film comes out... and I love the quivering G in the Gothantimes spread.

You clicked the G, right?

Oh yeah!

On the ad campaign: I think people forget that viral marketing has been around in movies for a long time. John Waters has a great spoken word video available on Netflix when he talks about all the extra stuff B-Horror drive-in flicks did to gain interest.

Some of the chudites should eat my chud and run with it.

It doesn't help that the main reviewers on chud are the geek equivalent to Ann Coulter with a nice dash of Christopher Hitchens thrown in. One can imagine the sort of readership that attracts. Still, I usually find it helpful to balance the arms-flailing geekgasm lovefest at Ain't It Cool News. Keeps me honest. But lately, man, they're pushing it.

Also, I just tonight finally saw C.H.U.D., and it saddens me to have that site likened to that delightful film.
