IRON MAN.

I'm gonna withhold further comments until more people see it, and until I see it at least once more. But for right now, I'm simply gonna say this:

Hell. Yes. Just might be up there with BATMAN BEGINS, SPIDER-MAN 2 and X2. One of the best superhero films ever.

With a 95% positive review rating on rottentomatoes.com, I feel confident recommending it to most anybody here. You don't need to be a geek; it's Robert Downey Jr, what more do you need?

Also: stick around after the credits. Take it from me, I cannot stress this enough. Stay after the credits.

In short. IRON MAN. Go. Go now.

As a bonus, they also had the new trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT. I'd already seen this bootlegged earlier this week, and you know what? I was still on the edge of my seat, jaw open, stunned. When the trailer hits the internet this Sunday, I will be watching it about five times in a row. Harvey's line at the end, that alone... tear my heart out, man.

I agree, it's definitely up there on the top superhero movie list. I didn't stick around after the credits but read about it just moments ago. That's the second time that's happened to me this summer (the other being the Harold and Kumar sequel). I should probably stop walking out of the theater during the credits.

Yeah, stop that! I always make it a point to stick around after the credits, unless I hate the film or if I really have to pee.

Not only is there often something after the credits, but y'know, that key grip is somebody's son.

Besides, you can read about it, but that don't match seeing (and hearing) it. I knew it was coming, but I didn't know ALL of what was coming. The handful of us that stuck around after the credits exploded with geekgasm.

Oh good...

So now I can let myself get excited about it before I see it?

Yay!

Will be catching it at the Uptown at 10 pm Friday. :)

Uptown's where I saw it! A fine choice, pally.

Yes, get excited. Not, y'know, TOO excited. Give yourself some excitement buffer zone, just in case.

I'm taking my mom to see it for Mother's Day.

...Mom is weird.

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
No, clearly, Mom is AWESOME.

Mom, despite being suspicious of comics in general, tends to really like superhero movies. So every year for the last...decade, almost...we've gone to see a superhero movie for Mother's Day. It's a little weird, no?

Weird but delightful. Furthermore and therefore, I dare say this will be one of your best Mother's Days ever.

Just one thing (only a spoiler to me): do they use the Sabbath tune in the movie itself? I really want that to be happening.

From: [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Not the whole song (nor, if I recall correctly, any of the sung parts either), but they definitely use it in a perfect place. Furthermore, the score definitely takes cues from it throughout.

Then this WILL be the best Mother's Day ever!

WAS IT AWESOME? NO SPOILERS, BUT WAS IT AWESOME? I trust you, Heffie. Was RDJ? I wanted it to be BETTER than Spider-Man 2 and X2. FAR BETTER.

You might have a couple issues in terms of the terrorists themselves (some might see it as the usual "brown people=bad" movie trope) but the utter awesomeness of the acting, writing, effects, and direction pretty well overwhelm such qualms.

You're far more a classic Marvel girl than I am (which is saying something, as even DC boy that I am, I find myself being the default "classic Marvel guy" among my friends), so I can't tell you objectively if RDJ really captured Tony. But I can say that's a pretty safe fucking bet. Wow.

But "FAR better"? That I can't say. Time will tell, I suppose, with multiple viewings. But I have to say, more than either of them, this felt like a Marvel movie, not a stand-alone dealie but the first true step to creating the Marvel Universe on film.

I haven't seen Iron Man, and I haven't seen the new Dark Knight trailer either! I'm actually heading down to St. Louis with a large congregation of fangirls to some concert, but rest assured, this will totally be on the itinerary!

(Is is lame that when I first saw Iron Monger on the slurpee cups at 7E I made a completely inappropriate noise inarticulate glee? 'Cause I totally did.)

Then go, go, for the good of the city!

And wait till you see him on film. The Iron Giant is PISSED, man.

I won't even have a chance before then.

BTW, Brandon and Grace want to come with. I told them I had to check with you, and that even if they join us that you and I will likely retreat off by ourselves to dissect it at the LA.

Feelings?

Hell yes, absolutely, bring 'em along! I really like Brandon. Hanging with you both was great.

Word.. my wife may even be able to join us.

We may need to segregate a table for geekery.

Just want to say, thank you so much for suggesting to stay after the credits. SO WORTH IT.

And the entire movie was awesome, definitely one of the superhero greats.

Very welcome! Next time I go, I may stand up on my seat during the credits and declare "DON'T LEAVE! SOMETHING AWESOME AT THE END! BESIDES, THE KEY GRIP IS SOMEONE'S CHILD!"
