thehefner: (Batman: Riddler in the Rain)
[personal profile] thehefner
[livejournal.com profile] angrylemur came down here to visit for the week. There was much hot geekery fun to be had, between SPX, me subjecting her to many films, her subjecting me to many indie bands, home-cooked gourmet meals, and, um, other stuff, all of which culminated yesterday with... well...

If you think the pairing of the Riddler and Zatanna is a bit odd, all I can say is that Paul Dini inspired me with both characters' current neato depictions in DETECTIVE COMICS recently. And besides, they're the only hero/villain pairing who would do battle with jazzhands. You know this to be true.

So yes, ladies and gentlemen. With the generous costume help of [livejournal.com profile] heleneotroy and [livejournal.com profile] spacechild, we give you our Victorian/Steampunkish takes on the Riddler and Zatanna.

The problem with doing costume shoots like this is that you always come up with fifteen great ideas after the shoot is finished. For example, we realized that we should have had some magical props for Zatanna: some sparkles, stuffed bunnies, roses, even a wand though she never uses wands. And so, bereft of magic and faced with a cunning foe, Zatanna is forced to do like any great performer and improvise.

Namely, beat the crap out of the Riddler with his own cane. It may not be elegant, but it's effective.

Oh, and one more I'd missed the first time around:

That's it for our outerwear. But as with the Joker/Harley shoot, we thought it'd be a good idea to have some alternate inside wear for R&Z. Nothing nearly as NSFW like last time, I assure you. For the sake of you guys, I'll give 'em their own post.

Furthermore, I've been forced to temporarily change the format of my own LJ to this current Hot-Topic-tasting, since the previous setting cut off the larger photos. Laaaame. One of these days, I'm gonna need to figure out how to customize my LJ page with Hefner Monologues pictures and stuff, make it truly worthy of being The Hefner's Blog.

Hee! Then you're not the only one, m'dear! :)

But just wait till you see what I've done with my hair in the second set. Perhaps you won't be quite so pleased. Let's just say that pomade is a hell of a thing.

FABULOUS. The purple tie with the bottle-green coat is a wonderful contrast, and you've got some great expressions going on. I'm also quite envious of her top hat - something about the velvety-shiny of it calls to me.

I'd suggest that last photo for a showcard, almost, if it even vaguely fit with the style of the monologues.

Looking good, very good!

Credit [livejournal.com profile] heleneotroy for the top hat, for it's on loan from her! She is my mistress for all things steampunk. I was originally gonna finally get one of these top hats, but there just wasn't enough time.

I'm totally with you on that last photo. I dunno where I could use it, in what capacity, but if nothing else, it's becoming my new facebook profile photo!

Thankya! :)

Wow!

Freakin' excellent shots. You make the Riddler look like the proper mastermind foe to a Victorian/Sherlock Holmesian Batman. Dapper, Brilliant, Elegant and Smooth. With a hint of dark whimsy.

Angrylemur is a lovely, elegant, Victorian gothic Zantanna.

Very, very impressive.

Again, I recommend making film or Theatre short with these themes. I think it could be powerful, artistic and an excellent show of you many levels of Genius.

Thankya, pally!

I hear ya, and I'd love to put all these to good use aside from pictures, but damn if I can figure out an effective way. There's no show I can do with these copyrighted characters, and a fanfilm would have to be of excellent quality to really be worthwhile.

Spectacular... as expected.

Love both of the costumes.

The green is spiffy to the extreme.

Thanks, pally!

The funny thing about the green coat is that my Mom bought it for me off eBay on a whim. I don't know what her reasoning was, other than, "Hey, awesome suit, gotta get it for John!" It came with pants that are both striped and pinstriped with about three different shades of green. I immediately balked at the suit, saying it made me look like a leprechaun.

Since then, I've used the ostentatious pants for my Bill the Butcher costume, but had no use for the coat. Until I realized how perfect it would be for Riddler. The pants proved to be too much pattern with the vest, so they're sitting this one out. Otherwise, I'm glad it's finally being put to good use! :)

I desperately require every single item of clothing your friend Zatanna is wearing, for I'm planning on going as Zee for Hallowe'en this year. I especially covet her corset and her tophat.

You both look really fabulous, and it looks like a ton of fun getting this done. Great stuff!

The corset is [livejournal.com profile] angrylemur's, while the top hat was generously loaned from [livejournal.com profile] heleneotroy (along with the corset from Part Two). Hopefully they'll know where you could get them for yourself.

You'd better get pictures!

Heh. I'm sure I can get pictures somehow, if I can get a corset to fit me. It's proving very problematic. You'd think they'd stock corsets for diminutive persons with wee waists and relatively big boobs, but noooo...every one I try on my boobs kind of *pop* out the top of. Which would be fun if it were a corset for romantic purposes, but I'm going to be partying in it. There cannot be any *poppage* involved!

Hell. I might just go as a cheerleader instead.

Then I hope and pray heartily that you find such a corset, because really, hawwwwt. And besides, cheerleaders? SO been done! Only the coolest, hippest sexy ladies are gonna be going as Zatanna, because they know Z is where to be! I apologize for writing that.

To be fair it is not actually a corset. It zips up in the back.

OH NO NOW THE INTERNET KNOWS MY SECRET SHAME

It's still very pretty, and you look fantastic in it. I see no shame in having a zippy corset.

My top hat is from Tall Toad.
The corset in Part Two (with the large grommets) is from Damsel in this Dress.
Zatanna's jewelry was made by my aunt, who doesn't have a website (yet).
Her fan is by High Point Crafts (also without a website).
The open-toes heels are by Crown Vintage.
The short shrug is from Lane Bryant of all places!

I'm glad *somebody* finally took note of her boots! They, too, were a loan from [livejournal.com profile] heleneotroy. Too big for her to actually walk in, but perfect for photos!

Thankya! I'd have really thought more people would be squicked out by my greasy, greasy hair. But then, if you could have survived my Joker pics, pomaded hair would be no problem! :)

EDIT: Oh, wait, you haven't gotten there yet. Haha, never mind!

You are totally rocking that outfit, sir. I have now found the ultimate outfit for Riddler.

Where the HELL did you find a suit in that colour, let alone a bowler?
