1.) The man said the night was always darkest just before the dawn. I think the dawn just arrived.

2.) That said, I think [livejournal.com profile] tommx put it best: "The true work begins."

3.) Following that, I think I have fixed the Harvey Dent mix. If you had any problems downloading or playing it before, try these: Part One and Part Two. They're now all m4a files, and hopefully in order. Let me know if it works all right, so I can pimp it on a couple relevant LJ communities! These kids have probably never heard a Peter Gabriel song in their lives!

4.) And yet, amid the joyous dancin' in the streets, California's Prop 8 passing is this election's Captain Buzzkill. That said, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rosered2318 for putting it into perspective with the thought of it going to the Supreme Court. Here's hoping.

5.) Magnolia (the name of the minivan I will be driving) is nearly ready for travel. The only thing I think I need to get is a portable hot plate or stove for making soup and ramen and whatnot. Probably wanna go to Target. What else am I forgetting?

6.) Seriously, folks. Karaoke. Remingtons. Tonight. Anyone in? If it's not happening, fine by me, I have packing to do. But it's my last huzzah, I'm off tomorrow. So what's it going to be, then?

EDIT: 7.) Oh, wait, Mo's at Austin Grill tonight? That might be even better! Nachos and margaritas and not making an ass of myself, I approve!

Super-excited about Obama! XD

But Prop 8 passed?! I've been hoping for a double-win of what I wanted/believed in...it didn't pass? Supreme Court sounds good though; but I've googled it, and there's no clear headline saying if it passed or not (I'd think there'd be a clear headline for that)--where did you get the news?

Yeah, I keep forgetting it actually hasn't passed yet as every other person on my LJ is already mourning it was a certainty. Suppose we should not give up hope yet, but based on what I'm hearing, it seems dire.

Uh huh--it's mostly what polls or predictions based on analyzing the settled votes already--I want to hope, but the article I just found below has me worried...

Where, here's something to completely break my denial:

But, in response to Mr. Flint's hopes: No way is this the end.

Only reason I'm not jumping at Remingtons is that Mo is performing at Austin Grille. Any chance you'd want to do that instead?

I think I might actually prefer that! I can get nachos and an awesome margarita!

Word! Let's mobilize.

Nachos and Margaritas...

...can be almost as dangerous as Karaoke. :)

If, for some reason I don't make it down the street tonight (or you don't make it out), have a damn fine kick off to your trip.

But which is the good side and which is the bad side?

Looking at her, I don't think it really matters.

Poor Edward? Seriously? I am listening to 'Alice', like, right now. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, JOHN HEFNER!

Hey, credit Sam with it. I never even heard of it till a few days ago, when she raved about it as a last-minute addition to the Harvey Dent mix. I subsequently bought "Alice" and shall likely beat it into the ground over the first few weeks on the road.

Yeah, we are both affictionados, from the Waits down.

By the way, Sam passed on your link to the details about the Montreal Fringe. Thanks for that. Could have found it myself but I need a prompting sometimes. Me = Lazy Tool Sometimes. Cheers!

If you do get in and we share a festival, I will personally smack you for that damn Waits pun. And then, of course, I will pimp your show. But the smacking comes first. Good luck getting in!

Thanks, John. We can - like astonishingly cooperative whores - pimp each other.

I have no idea of the odds about getting in, by the way. Bloody loads of folks probably submit if it's anything like Edinburgh so I'm not holding my breath. Would be excellent to play there though - and also to meet your bad self!

Haha. "From the Waits down." I kill me.

Everything is the small time compared to Edinburgh. In fact, if I had to guess, it sounds like Winnipeg is closer to being a huge festival on par with it, so while I don't know what the odds are for you, I'm willing to bet they're way better than with Edinburgh.

Not if I kill you first, pally. ;p

Well, Edinburgh doesn't have a lottery. It's just expensive. If you have the money to hire the venue then you're in.

The only thing left to chance in Edinburgh is getting an audience: there's a lot of competition between shows there.

I've heard Winnipeg is good because it's cheap. You can actually make money there to fund your next festival stop. This is what I hear on the grapevine is all. You heard similar?

I had previously heard a couple artists raving about Winnipeg, saying it's a total money-maker, that the whole town clears out to come see the shoes, stuff like that. Then I read the Winnipeg review at this blog (which also has a good heads-up of what to expect at Montreal):

http://www.fringeordie.blogspot.com/

Which warns that it too is huge, with a program the size of a Dickens book, and if you're a newbie you'll get lost in the sea of familiar faces and "celebrities." So I'm gonna prepare for the worst, and hopefully do well. Winnipeg's gonna be my wild card this first year.

Cheers for the link, John. Winnepeg is too huge? Or Montreal?

Edinburgh is deffo too huge.

I'll let you know if/when I've applied for Montreal! I'm only going for that particular Canadian option because of the proximity to Sambo (though the town is nice of course and it's an appropriate time of year for me to aim for, workload wise).

You're doing an entire tour though. I can't imagine that.

Montreal seems reasonable. Winnipeg is huge, but the only way I'm gonna make it there is the same for everywhere else: establish myself the first year and take a money loss with the hope being that I can come back in the future and be remembered.

Yeah, truth be told, I can barely imagine it myself. I did three shows last year, and that kicked my ass. This will be a gauntlet.

Yup, I think there can be a cumulative effect. I watch very closely a comedian called Richard Herring (who has a fab blog at www.richardherring.com). Cumulative is the word for him. He plays Edinburgh every single year. I used to rattle around for him in half-full venues but now he tends to sell out.

I hope you don't lose too much money in Canada though. Herring says he used to lose about £15 000 per Edinburgh Fringe (about $27 000), which gives you some idea of how expensive things can be here. He would make up for it by doing a non-festival tour.
