My laptop is dead. Dead as a Chrysler.
Mar. 26th, 2004 02:11 pmReally dead. Or in the terms of the guy at OIT, really really dead. Dead for a ducat, dead.
And while the last time I had a computer melt down (literally) I was still able to retrieve the files, here apparently I can't. So sez the guy at OIT here. I still have to wonder.
I can't remember if I got the three-year warrenty plan at Best Buy or just the one. I think we got the three, because we bought this one on the heels of the melted one, but I can't remember. I also can't find the reciepts. I hope to God we can, like, give them my Dad's credit card number to check their records, or use SOMETHING to uncover info for the warrenty plan. I really, really hope. I've heard Best Buy horror stories, but they've always steered me right (except when it comes to buying laptops, it seems). No more Compaq, this much is sure. If I'm getting a new one, I'm going for a Dell. Any other suggestions? No Macs, though. I'm not a fan.
Thankfully, I went through my e-mail and was able to retrieve my novel and the scenes from the play I'm working on. I lost the revisions I made on the novel, and it won't bring my Mark Snow Millennium soundtrack back, but it's a start.
Oh, and um. Curse Richards and all that.

Next computer, get yourself a CD burner and make backups. Yeah, I know, everybody says it and nobody does it. Using the Internet for backups isn't a bad idea, either. Good thing you did that much.
