I can honestly say that I think there's a little something for every single one of you on my f-list in this video:
Y'know, this reminds me, I wish I had John C. Reilly's career. Besides the monologues, I would love to be the guy whose career has him doing films with Scorsese, arthouse dramas, broad comedies*, musicals, Stanley Kowalski on Broadway, a TV show on Adult Swim, and even a couple tracks for an album of pirate songs.
I want his agent now, damn it. John C. Reilly has my dream career.
*Too many to count specifically, but I will say that WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY is a hilarious film that dearly needs to be discovered and embraced years later, like ZOOLANDER was.

Date: 2008-12-04 02:17 am (UTC)At first, I was like "Oh cool, it's Margaret Cho!" and then I was like "Holy shit! It's John C. Riley!" and then Jack Black came out and made me squee. But then, the always wonderful and entertaining Neil Patrick Harris had to close the show. It was all pure win.

Date: 2008-12-04 02:29 am (UTC)HAIRSPRAY composer Marc Shaiman plays the piano. Jordan Ballard, Margaret Cho, Barrett Foa, J.B. Ghuman, John Hill, Andy Richter, Maya Rudolph, Rashad Naylor, Nicole Parker star as 'California Gays and The People That Love Them'. John C Reilly as a Prop 8 leader, and Alison Janney as his wife. Kathy Najimy as his second wife. Jenifer Lewis as a riffing Prop 8'er. Craig Robinson as a preacher. Rashida Jones, Lake Bell, Sarah Chalke as Scary Catholic School Girls from Hell. Katharine "Kooks" Leonard, Seth Morris, Denise "Esi!" Piane, Lucian Piane, Richard Read, Seth Redford, Quinton Strack, and Tate Taylor as The Frightened Villagers.
I missed half of 'em the first time around. Definitely warrants multiple viewings!

Date: 2008-12-04 04:52 pm (UTC)I suspect I won't like it, and so do they. They claim that the average rating of it is 3.4, and they think I'll rate it a 2. Probably based largely on the fact that I hated Anchorman.
But the experiment to see if they're right will be interesting.
I got the same impression of Walk Hard. Reilly seems to want to do comedies like Will Ferrell, since he also did Stepbrothers. I just don't like those films, but I don't want to close things off unnecessarily, either.

Date: 2008-12-04 06:18 pm (UTC)WALK HARD really depends on a knowledge of music biopics in general (particularly WALK THE LINE, RAY, BEYOND THE SEA, and GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!), but I wouldn't have watched it anyway if I hadn't read this (it was the clip of the first recording session with the great John Michael Higgins):

So maybe read that first and watch those clips if you want to gauge how you might feel, or just dive in head-first. When I finally did watch WALK HARD, I did so with Kevin B. and Don, both of whom laughed a lot but ultimately liked it just "okay." Much like I did with ANCHORMAN. Me, though, I loved WH.
