51 Things I Miss About D.C.

Not my list (my old boss sent it to me to boast about our store being .24, and damn it, I am proud of our well-stocked shelves!), but an especially timely one for me right now. Especially considering that I have not experienced even half of these things.

Methinks it's time to finally get to know my city a little better, when I return around mid-January. Which is the plan now, in case folks were wondering.

This icon is the only appropriate response. You're history's greatest monster.

(And here I was wondering if maybe I scared you off beyond repair with my admittance of hatred toward Bleph Bloeb.)

No, I just got too lazy to write you back. And I'm currently working on a 12 page paper.

And it's one of those papers that is making suicide look like a better option, you know?

And I happen to like Two-Face in Batman Forever.

*long pause*

Oh, yes, I do recall those papers well. Between that and your admittance, I will pray for your soul.

If I knew absolutely nothing about Harvey and had zero connection with the character whatsoever, I could honestly see myself enjoying Tommy Lee's performance on its own merits. There, even with that, I can be understanding. I hope you appreciate the fanboy gymnastics I just underwent.

Well. I suppose I can respect that answer. Given that Tommy Lee Jones always plays deadpan and understated characters (or at least, most of the time) I think it was fantastic what he managed to do in that movie. Best thing about that film, hands down. (Not to say Jim Carrey wasn't good, but whatever--he played the Riddler like he played ALL of his characters at the time, so who cares?)

I can generally have a wider appreciation for such things, but when it comes to Batman and especially Harvey, I have my own grumpy, stubborn opinions and standards. The only campy Batman I enjoy is the Adam West version, and all of the four Batman movies make me wince to varying degrees. I mean, just from the standpoint of a comic reader, and lover of the animated series.

Maybe now, with TDK, I can finally let go of my grudge against BATMAN FOREVER for being the mainstream public's only known perception of Harvey Dent. But it'll be a long time before I can watch that film all the way through. I tried recently! Just wasn't happenin'.

Man, I don't care if he's too old, I want Matt Frewer to play the Riddler. At least we'll have him as Moloch in WATCHMEN, but still, the dude's like Jim Carrey's cooler, smarmier, more awesome brother.

Adam West was my first Batman.

Then I watched Batman and Batman Returns--the second of which scarred me for life, and I kid you not. I still can't watch a certain scene in Batman Returns.

---Let's not forget Billy Dee Williams. I think Lando made a fine Harvey Dent....For those three seconds of screen time.

Batman Forever I enjoyed as a kid, so I think it holds a special place in my heart.

Batman and Robin....Does not exist.

Out of curiosity, which scene?

I can't even think about it without cringing.

Honestly, I feel that way about the entire movie. If it were an original movie, not a Batman one, I might enjoy it as a beautifully grotesque work. As it is, I just find BATMAN RETURNS grotesque, period. I saw it again recently for the first time in years, and just felt sick the whole time.

I do like the traditional playful socialite/jewel thief catwoman obviously the best--but I didn't mind CRAZY!CATLADY Catwoman too much. But once again, I think she was the best part of the movie. (As a kid I also had a problem with the 'Tic, Tac, Toe' face scratch scene) But yeah, it was pretty gross, with a side of fried Christopher Walkin.

Watch Under Siege. Tommy Lee Jones played Two-Face a lot like he played the villain in that movie. (Under Siege was the first movie in which I had seen TLJ.)

I'm not saying that it's the only time he's ever played an eccentric character. But normally, his characters are more like what he did in 'The Hunted' or 'No Country For Old Men'. I think Tommy Lee Jones is a great actor, I just think he did a great job as Two-Face, working with the director he had and with the camp-ness of the film.

Oh, I liked both performances too. Just sayin'.

That list is void because of the CakeLove mention. I hate that place - their cupcakes always taste stale, even when fresh and their cookies just plain suck.

That's the first bad thing I've heard about CakeLove. It has been recommended to me a couple times during my love affair with Georgetown Cupcake. I'm gonna have to check it out to verify the crappy cupcakes for myself.

When I worked at the Shakespeare Theatre, we contracted Cakelove to provide some of the concession snacks. The guy who runs Cakelove is a tall, handsome former lawyers and the female house managers were just drooling over him. He could've gave them overcooked cupcakes and rock-hard cookies and they would've agreed to his contract still.

Cakelove is all about image, not about taste.

Sounds like I'm doing the right thing by staying loyal to Georgetown Cupcake. Still, if I'm ever in the area, I'd like to see just how shitty they are, so I can better appreciate what I have. I'm always up for knowledgeably hatin' on the Man, at least when baked goods are involved.

i agree about cake love -- they are never moist and i don't like their frosting. Georgetown Cupcake is far superior.

There is a new place in Dupont Circle -- I think it's just called "Cupcake" that I've been meaning to try.

I like this list :) It captured a lot of what I know and love about DC and made me even happier we decided against moving to Baltimore.

Oooh, a Dupont Circle one? All the more incentive for me to come back! Let me know how it is if you go, otherwise mayhaps we'll go together upon my return! If nothing else, I certainly need to hit up a few of those recommended restaurants.

i would love to go on a cupcake outing with you. Or to discover any DC spots on the list. i don't even care if i've been there before, it's always fun to share something i love with a dear friend :)

I seriously need that gif wherein Harvey Dent is eating the carrot cake.

Blast, I think [livejournal.com profile] inviere posted that here once upon a time, but damn if I can recall where it went!

Ugh, poor Harvey. As of this week's NIGHTWING, it sucks to be him now more than ever. Note to self, though, stay the crap away from the DC Message Boards. They were and always will be vile hives of scum and fucktardery. He could so use a big slice of carrot cake. And for that matter, so could I.

Sounds like a plan! I'll be in touch when I get back! We also should have another round of Wii-ing! And hopefully by then you'll have finished my comics!

We should indeed. I should have finished your comics by then, although there is little doubt that I will still suck just as bad as I did on the Wii.

this is the only icon I can tophat pointy back at you with

Heffie, I totally gave you a shout out.

Heffie, slightly off topic, but I totally gave you a shout out (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/6791554.html?thread=260097154#t260097154) in honor of [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily's fifth birthday. Because the story of how we met on the comm is too hysterical not to post.

Your post makes me want to visit DC, and I'm still waiting to see more pictures from your trip.

Hey, awesome, I'll just check it ou...

...

... you thought I was a girl and a slasher?! Egad, now I'm happier than ever to have changed the name to thehefner!

Yes, come to DC! We have... um... Old Bay Seasoning! Well, okay, that's Maryland, and even though you don't eat crabs, you can totally use it on other things! Like popcorn!

I have one more post of pictures yet to do from my Route 1 trip, but it's a bit heavier in terms of story, so I've been putting it off and wrapping up Draft Six of the Harvey Dent novel instead. But you remind me that I need to take more pictures of Seattle!

You'd best get over there and back me up!

I told you that I thought you were a girl and a slasher when we first met! I've told you that via IM at least three thousand three times. :-)

Dude, you better get over to that post and back me up in that thread, because no one else is going to believe me.

I would, except as I honestly don't remember that, I'm not sure I'd be of any help! Maybe I've suffered a series of Hal Jordan style head injuries that made me forget!
