"The Blackest Night" #1 was... um...

...

Oh god, I don't think I even want to see the fallout on scans_daily.

Y'know what? I'm just gonna wait and see where Johns is going with this. I want to believe Bart's line about the statues is where this story is ultimately going. That by the end of this story, many--if not all--dead characters will come back to life. Including the ones who die in the story. For one thing, I guarantee we'll have Aquaman back by the end. I doubt he'll be the only one. He'd better not be. I really, really want to enjoy this story, and I have the jelly beans to prove it.

But this first issue... hurrm...

I'll stick with "Wednesday Comics" #2 for now. It should make prime reading material while I wait to do my first show in an hour. Even before opening night, all I can think about is comics.

Haven't read it yet, though I saw the scans...

...Yeah. Nice one, Johns.

The end in sight?

What happens when you mix all seven colors, John?
That's all I'm saying.

Quick question- ever do Fringe in DC, or are you doing it now and I missed something?

Yes indeedy, I've done it the past two years! Taking it off this year because I don't have a new show ready and I wanted to do Winnipeg instead, of which I've heard naught but amazing things. So far, it's been promising!

I spent most of the issue saying "Eewwwwwwww".

And then I got frightened by Ralphs' nose. I think this might have to go in the airing cupboard alongside "Arkham Asylum: Living Hell", and Stephen Kings' "Pet Semetary". (The airing cupboard is where I keep the terrifying books)

I liked the Tales of the Corps backup a great deal more, though Geoff Johns has awful funny ideas about compassion (was expecting that though).

The bits I know of mainstream comic book universe come mainly from cartoons and big DK comic encyclopedia books. Still, is DC trying to SPIT on the creation of iconic, long lasting characters by making them all into horror movie zombies? I liked Identity Crisis to varying degrees (it was actually the comic that got me into exploring the whole DC comics universe) but I loved, loved, loved the moment when Ralph Dibny is telling the fire winged girl that his wife is not just his wife but his lady-that old school reverence and adoration was just classiest of classy.
After the little I've seen of the Red Lanterns (and Ruffles is awesome) I was disappointed by the 28 Days Later rip off (apparently a conscious decision on the artists part) so I was not surprised by the use of more horror movie cliches. But can't we come with anything more original?
