So, hey, I dunno how many of you folks know this, but I have a beach house on Rehoboth Beach. I mean, Mom runs the operation, but I own it. Seriously. I am a legit homeowner now.

This was how we invested my inheritance from Dad. To say I was hesitant about Mom's wacky idea is putting it lightly, but my brother and stepfather agreed it was a good idea, which says a lot if they all thought so.

Turned out, this house is one of the best things that ever happened to me. For one thing, it's a perfect writer's retreat, just inland enough to be close to everything but to be surrounded with privacy and nature. I'd likely be spending whole weeks up here at a time, just hermiting it up and writing and resting, if I didn't have Fringe Festivals to do. Not to mention renters.

That was Mom's other big idea for the house. A little income for the jobless traveling artist. And until I become experienced and established enough at Fringe Festivals, this house is now my primary source of income. Which is why Mom has been telling me how I've needed to post this very entry here on LJ for weeks now, so I could put the offer out there for all of you.

We want to keep the beach house rentals to the people we know, and the people they know, rather than just put it up on Craigslist and the like. So yeah, if you'd like a vacation spot a couple miles outside of downtown Rehoboth Beach, or a writer's retreat of your own, or just a place for a little peace and quiet, drop me a line.

It's $600 for a week, and we really prefer doing it as week-long rentals, but we can do weekends for around $400, open for negotiation. And hey, we still have Labor Day open!

And hey, since we're already talking about renting homes, my good pal [livejournal.com profile] tragical_mirth is back in the DC area and looking for a place! Anyone have any good leads? She's willing to share the awesome power of her Netflix account with roomies!

Couldn't have spoken up sooner, huh?

No big, the rooms we would up with for October (greyhound weekend) are literally on the beach and slightly cheaper for the 2 of us anyway. OTOH, if it comes up again afterward I'll have this info as a backup plan in case our favorite place is booked.

Yeah, probably would have been smart to do this before summer, eh? I just kept putting it off because it felt too... I dunno, weird somehow.

Well, keep me posted if you need it! Mom handles the business end of things, as well as negotiations, if she's open to such things.

And after my last few days craigslisting, I reeeeally don't recommend you put it there. OMG, I wish I had time to share some of the cracked out apartment/share ads I've found.

It would've been nice to know this before G & I already hit the beach this summer.

Remind me to hit you up on this for next year though.

Three. We have two bedrooms (with a double and a queen size, respectively) and one separate guest room outside (with another queen, I believe).

Will keep you posted.

Man, John. On the one hand, white person land-owning in North America, ewwwwwww. ON THE OTHER HAND, there's a lot you could do with a freaking beach house, and I'm not talking just renting it out. What about hosting workshops for writers and artists and performers? You could get a couple other professionals and get groups of folks up for, like... a creative-type camp for grown-ups. Or turn it into a resource centre; I'm not sure quite how this works in the states, but in Canada, non-profit resource centres can get funding from the government for rent and supplies, so they can provide a free space for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it to go and learn and be around other creative people.

Hrm. I'm going to keep it in mind. This summer is already pretty packed, but next year is a given.

if it was directly on the beach, i'd be flipping out and pushing lillbet out the way and shaking fistfuls of money at you. as it stands, still not a bad deal at all, but again, i'm in competition, so will concede. =) good to keep in mind, though... and lucky you!

What's funny is that if it actually were directly on the beach, I'd DEFINITELY had been against getting it! I mean, as in investment, yeah, great, but I actually hate the beach and the people and sand and water and sun and everything. But just this far inland, hell yes, perfect for Heffie, but hopefully also enticing for other folks too.

Aye, do keep it in mind! Methinks I'll have to do a whole new post like this come April or May next year to remind folks!

When you introduce yourself to girls now, you should tell them you own land.
