Flew to Boston for a comic con just one day. Henchgirl thinks we should totally tackle the New England guides through ROAD TRIP USA (I think there even is a ROAD TRIP USA: NEW ENGLAND guidebook!) sometime soon.
and be sure to buy some Bourbon Barrel Ale. It's Ale brewed in Bourbon Barrels, and it's pretty amazing. Also, if you're driving, bring me back some. I'm all out of what I brought here with me. *cries*
Drink-wise, always! Ohhhh man, we'll be going along 50 through Louisville, so Lexington might be a bit too much of a detour, but that Bourbon Barrel Ale is seriously bloody tempting. Is it commonly available in that state? I currently use awesome bitters aged in whiskey barrels, so I can only imagine what the wood does to ale. Mmmmm!
Regular Kentucky Ale can be found around, but I've never seen any of their other varieties in a shop. Then again, they started making that just before I moved to MD...
There's a great liquor store off Connecticut Ave that has the single best beer selection I've ever seen. If I can get it anywhere in DC, it'd be there. I'll have to check, as it would be better to enjoy it at home than on the road, naturally. ;)
Also, I am amazed, because beteween 64, 75, and 65, it's hard to get anywhere in that part of the country without crossing Kentucky. Just hope you don't have to cross it the long way - ugh. Bo-ring.
Now that I think about it, it may have happened, but I honestly can't recall when or how. The road to Chicago/Indy takes me overhead through Ohio (at least I'm pretty sure it did on the way to Indy), and I bypass it entirely when I go South to Alabama.
Well hey, maybe Henchgirl and I could say hi when we come to CA to perform in the Rogue Festival in Fresno! Even if you can't make it up there, we'll be going to LA for a couple days to eat at the Apple Pan (BANANA CREAM PIE MUST BE MINE), visit the family mansion (well, the outside gate, anyway), do Disneyland, and whatnot.
Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, and Morro Bay are right near there, though San Luis Obispo, itself, is a boring, sleepy college town. The one exception seems to be the Thursday Night Farmer's Market (every Thursday, natch), which brings out both the delicious food and the crazies. A friend of mine had a horribly-funny encounter at the Market a few years back with a man dressed like Jack Sparrow... which turned out to have been Depp, himself, during a night of crazy cosplay. Go figure.
Excellent! I shall make every effort to get myself North!
I got through on the waiting list! Will you be there? I also sent in for Cincy, so fingers crossed there (I was approached by a lady from Cincy in Indy, so I *think* I'm pretty well getting in, but still...)

Date: 2009-12-18 07:26 pm (UTC)And did you fly to MA or deliberately drive there through NY? I mean, I know CT is dopey and if you have a hiccuping fit, you'll miss Rhody...
And you definitely need to make New England next fall. Or if you don't like yourself very much, next March.
