I finally catch up with LOST to the point that I am able to watch the premiere (more or less on the day it actually aired), for the first time actually being in on the the next-day torrent of jizzy LOST-fan geekgasm dripping off my f-list...

... and nobody is talking about the season premiere?!

Those of us who go out of our way to watch it when it's "live" have learned our lesson about immediately spewing out ideas and stuff about it right then.

I'll check it out. The main problem with blazing through the DVDs rather than following along episode to episode is that I don't get to digest the episode alongside fans, whose own passion and insights greatly lend to the enjoyment.

As such, I have to say that whole I find LOST incredibly compelling and very good, I rarely ever actually have an enjoyable time watching it. I feel like I'm too busy being depressed that Locke keeps making mistakes and too often facepalming with, "JACK YOU IDIOT."

So I just hope I won't be put off by LOST fan-passion, because man, if I hadn't started watching the DVD's 'round the time of Season 4, I probably would have absolutely *zero* interest in watching the show now. I wonder if we VENTURE BROS fans have the same effect...

We're a very accepting community and not really all that fandomy in that kinda gross elitist way. The community's just full of a bunch of fun-loving smart gals and gays who want to see Richard all sexy in chains and maybe some Ben on the side (quite a few Ben-lovers in there -- not for me, though.)

The one thing I don't look forward to are the shippers. Of Kate, Juliet, Jack, and Sawyer, Sawyer's the only one I kinda like, so I especially don't care about who's angsting over whom.

I'm in this show for guys like Locke, Sun, Jin, Hurley, Ben, Daniel, and Richard. And I'm still pissed about Eko, because he'd be top of that list.

There aren't any stupid shipper things. We all really dislike Kate, so we don't give half a SHIT about what she does in her free time.

We are all (well, most of us) die-hard Sawyer/Juliet fans.

Oh, and some people love Ben/Locke, but that's mostly because we're on some crack.

We're big Sun fans. BIGGGGG Daniel fans. And yeah, duh, we all have to change our panties once Richard gets mentioned. (I was gonna write my NaNoWriMo on him -- more on that later.)

Eko was a fabulous character and I hope that Smokey will be able to explain why he offended him so. D:


Just... join. Look around. If it's for you, that's awesome. If not, then that's cool too. We're not hardcore intellectuals in that community. Well, I mean, we are actually a lot of really smart people, but ontd_lost is what we do in our free time so, because we've all had experiences with bad fandoms, we try and keep the place relatively light. Lots of funny jokes and gifs and yes, occasionally we're serious.

Hey, that message was purely directed at the raving LOST fans on my list who've geekgasmed for years in posts I've tried desperately to avoid until I've caught up too (and still ended up getting spoiled!).

You quit watching TV? Well, you don't really need it, I suppose, since most anything worthwhile (besides, say, THE DAILY SHOW) will be on DVD. If you're ever inclined, LOST is worth checking out. gnort above just started watching, and he blazed through the first season in a couple days. It's like an addictive page-turner thriller in TV form. Even when it's not great, you gotta know what happens next!

Well, it wasn't a completely voluntary decision. Cable and satellite quickly priced themselves outside our budget. When broadcast went all-digital, that was the final nail in the coffin. Now I either download what I want to watch, or watch it on the internet somewhere. I have about seven or eight shows I follow.
