How long has there been talk about re-instating the draft? Including for women, and making old standbys like college and Canada no longer viable options? And why haven't we heard jack all about it?

Anyone? Anyone?

You haven't heard about it primarily because it's not going to happen, and secondarily because you don't read enough news to read the news articles about how it's not going to happen. Especially not for women.

People bring it up every time there's a war, but nobody has actually talked about it seriously. This just isn't that kind of war.

Nor are they going to fail to grant deferments to college students. Wars need officers; college is where you get 'em from. As for Canada... even at the end of Vietnam Canada was a lot more dubious about accepting draft-dodgers. Try England instead.

But most importantly, don't worry about it. Nobody wants to draft your bony ass.

There's an old bill in Congress that's been inactive for a VERY long time. It has a couple of new provisions about the Canadian border not being the security it was, and it would include women, which is the main reason why the DEMOCRATS introduced it. It's there to be a placeholder, and if need be, to fail.

The main scare (if you've heard anything at all) comes from the fact that tons of money has been shoveled into highschool recruiting stations, which would be the ones doing the legwork during a draft. That money only makes it more likely that they won't need a draft. Josh is right about the likelihood. You're safe. Don't head to Mexico anytime soon.
