Here's a little something I whipped up*for little_dinosaur, in the style of Jules Feiffer and inspired, in part, by the Pointy Dog strips of heykidzcomix.





(Note: I actually had to go re-letter this whole thing, as my lettering blows. But as a result, I wasn't quite able to letter in with MSPaint the footnote on the image just after the SHAKE-A SHAKE-A SHAKE-A image. The arrow there is to indicate, "I'm so crazy, even I don't know this pose is impossible!")

(Also, my apologies to the great interdisciple for the Persians joke. What can I say, Johnny comes from a less tolerant era.)



*I say this with highest irony; another reason why I never persued art was because I just didn't have the damn patience. This thing took me a couple days to do, between all my other real-life stuff. And by a couple days, I mean, "I picked at it for a few weeks."

You want it all at once or in chapters? I have six chapters so far (long chapters... it's already over 160 pages) and already have the end in sight. Finishing the first rough draft will likely take another two or three weeks. Also, I have a Hefner Monologues script to finish.

No, I'm really not at all into the horror/gore/scary movie genre. I get too involved, too invested in the characters, and I suffer right there along with them, so I really don't enjoy those kinds of movies at all.

Yeah, I can see what you mean.

DAY OF THE DEAD is my favorite of the zombie movies, even though Bub is by far the most likable and human of the characters, but one of the things that made the original DAWN so affecting was how invested you became in the characters. A good zombie movie emphasizes characters as well as the gore and horror, because the zombies aren't the real monsters.

But hey, that's even better than you can get something out of Bub and Johnny without even knowing anything about Bub! That's very encouraging.

Oh absolutely. I'm sure I don't get as much out of it as someone who knows the character, but from what I've seen, you use him very effectively to demonstrate your points so that I don't need to know about the character. Just like Galaxy Quest. Sure it's much funnier if you're a trekkie, but it's still a great movie even if you're not.

Alright Boy-o I read the Hefner Monologues through once. Now I want to know what you have cut it to for your show. Then I want to read just that and make suggestions.

As a written work it is incredible. I am glad I never heard the stories before because that would have ruined it for me. Loved the telling of me even if it gets me in trouble.

My thought if you only have an hour would be 3 20 minute stories. or 6 10 minute ones. With a connective tissue of some sort. But let me see how you have broken it down so far before I dissect it.

I'll have to read Harvey tomorrow. And then read the monologues again.

But Bub doesn't drink martinis! He doesn't ingest anything anymore!

... but I suppose that wouldn't stop him from trying, especially not if Johnny pushes him. And then, of course, the martinis spill out through a hole in Bub's body, whereupon Johnny patches him up for the first (and certainly not the last) time.

[whereupon Johnny patches him up] Better. "See Bub, you and I have similar problems, and it's not drinking." After considering putting a spigot on Bub would be too disgusting even for him, he just sticks Bub's finger in the dike. "No Bub, you're doing it wrong! You got to use your pinkie to look smooth. There. Now THAT'S a drinking pose!" (Bub smiles proudly.) And of course, Johnny claims that those priors don't count.

Umm, unless "Myron" is such an unknown petty gangster that he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page, I think you mean Meyer (who does have one, and is one of the most famous mobsters of all time, and probably the most famous Jewish mobster... although I dunno if he's more so than Bugsy Siegel.
