A reminder:

TOMORROW NIGHT! MONDAY AND ALSO TUESDAY OF THIS WEEK!

THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES in Baltimore! Wheee!

8 pm at the Hamilton Arts Collective! Venue info and directions available here!!!

So if you missed it at CapFringe this year, now's your chance! It's revised, expanded, and all-around embettered!

In related news, I finally tracked down videos of John Leguizamo's FREAK, which isn't on DVD and is only available through expensive bootlegs on ebay. [livejournal.com profile] spacechild and [livejournal.com profile] slaversbane, you were right, I needed to see this. Also, big thanks to Paul for lending me the book of FREAK.

So, yeah, Leguizamo is right up there with Christopher Titus* as one of my true idols. Ever get that feeling of jealously and inadequacy overwhelmed by utter admiration and giddy awe at watching one of your heroes at their peak? Wow.

Watching this makes me want to aim higher than ever now. Heck, I'm also considering maybe actually playing loud bad techno music** in my "Drunk in Bath" story, if I can do it without ruining the flow of my storytelling.

*When oh when will NORMAN ROCKWELL IS BLEEDING be out on DVD?!?!

** I'm thinking this, from the very first CD I ever bought. Is that not the greatest track ever? Yes, I'm a monster.

Not a bad idea. But you'll need to add a tech person to your (nonexistent?) crew. There's no real graceful way to do it yourself (unless they've gone and perfected remote control sound systems without telling me).

Thinking again, what you'd want to do is introduce the setting of the club in Bath, and then let the techno rip for 10-15 seconds, long enough for the loud techno-ness of it to seep into the audience. Then your sound guy gradually drops the volume (never taking the music all the way out) while you get on with the story.

Um, did I mention I got my backstage start running sound? It's a bit of a hobby of mine. My favorite sound cue of all time was bringing in Elvis's "You Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog" at around a level of 8, perfectly mimicking a television with the volume set just a little to loud, at exactly the moment the lights went up and the actors unfroze from their tableaux.

Yeah, this just might really work. But the thing is, I don't have any tech guys, and while I might be able to find folks for local stuff, I don't know if anyone'd be willing to come to Orlando and other such festivals with me.

... still, I shall play with the music, and see if it works. Because it could, it really could.

Okay, I seriously shrieked with glee at getting a lead on a recording of FREAK! I've had the book for a few years and I want to see how it plays out when performed. :D Thanks so much!

Yeah, it's not of the best quality, but... it'll do. It'll do just fine. :)

If you can handle the video player, then click on that link, watch, and love. Also, buy the book, FREAK, by Leguizamo.

And, okay, okay, I know it was bolded, capitalized, and in huge font, but I was so "buzah?" over John Leguizamo I TOTALLY FORGOT to congratulate you on the Hefner Monologues!

CONGRATULATIONS! GOOD LUCK! ♥!

At least 2, maybe 4 of us coming tonight :) How long is it? And should I expect to get to see you afterwards (i.e., bring you cookies?)

Reply by 1:30pm (leaving work for Dr app't then) or don't worry about it :)

Yayyy! The show is aprox. 75 minutes. Very aprox, as I'm trying out new material, and working without a 60 minute deadline this time.

It'll be so good to see you! Been a while! Yeah, I'll totally be able to hang after! :)

Dude.. I'm so glad you found it! We will dissect it (I need to rewatch it) soon.

First, we have the screening at the Drafthouse this Tuesday. We'll talk and finalize the details on that.

And finally, a belated well-wishing for the Hef-Mono in Baltimore. I will just have to break your legs later. (Sorry, things have been crazy)
